Luther star Ruth Wilson close to signing up to a spin-off series as evil research scientist Alice Mo

IT would be hard work to replicate the global success of BBC1 detective series Luther but Idris Elba’s co-star Ruth Wilson thinks she is in with a chance.

Ruth, who plays evil research scientist Alice Morgan in the hit drama, has revealed she has been in talks to front a spin-off and will sign up as long as the script and storyline is right.

Asked about the project, she said: “We’ve talked about it actually. Yes, ­definitely, if the script is right and the storyline is right.

“It’s funny. People like ­watching her because she comes in and out. If you watched a whole ­episode of her, would it be the same? I don’t know.

“I’m interested — if the script is right, yes. You’d have to make the show quite different in style though, and get inside her head.”

The project would follow the lead of upcoming BBC1 series Baptiste — a spin-off to The Missing — starring Tcheky Karyo reprising his role as detective Julien Baptiste.

And Ruth believes that a shift in equality and roles for women with the success of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s BBC1 drama Killing Eve could help get the project off the ground.

Speaking about her character Alice, she added: “She’s a scientist, she’s incredibly intelligent.

“What does she get up to on a daily basis? She’s not like Luther. You’d have to find a new pivot, but yes we have talked about it, and she is an amazing character. There’s still so much to dig into.

“She’s delicious. Like Glenn Close playing deliciously awful baddies. I love Glenn Close. She does horrible things but you’ve got to find the humanity in these characters.

“Women are getting more chances, like with Killing Eve. It’s great to see these characters and great for us to get to play them. Baddies are such fun.”

If it’s as gripping as Luther, I’m in.

Louis The-rude

THE closest Louis Theroux ­usually gets to naked flesh is a tour of the shower block in his hard-hitting prison documentaries.

But his latest BBC2 series sees him going a lot further.

The presenter swaps his clothes for a blindfold on Sunday night’s episode of Altered States as topless women squirt cream and smear it on his face at a sensual ­eating party.

It’s all part of a visit to Portland – the US capital of polyamory – to meet people who have multiple relationships that go further than just sex. Louis said: “There were people spasming in ecstasy. ­Actually I went a little further than you see, without going into detail.”

It’s certainly Louis as I’ve never seen him before.

Camilla & Jamie return

LOVE Island beauty Camilla Thurlow might have left it a bit late for a spin-off show but ITV bosses clearly don’t share that view.

The reality star, pictured, is returning to our screens for the first time since finishing joint runner-up on the 2017 ITV2 series. She’ll appear in a one-off documentary about her charity work and relationship with fellow islander Jamie Jewitt.

What Camilla Did Next, on ITVBe, will follow her as she makes a trip back to Cambodia where she used to work for a mine clearance charity before finding reality TV fame.

But the documentary might lose a bit of its sheen after The Sun revealed the couple had argued over his partying with Playboy model ex Sarah Stephens during a trip to New York this month.

And the new show might just push their relationship over the edge.

The Little Drummer Girl

BIZARRE TV’s Rod McPhee checks out the new prime-time spy drama.

GLAM rock, gaudy colours and polyester slacks  – when it came to style, the Seventies were a diabolical decade.

Yet Swedish hunk Alexander Skarsgard and English rose Florence Pugh – the lead stars of The Little Drummer Girl – have made the era seem sexy again. And this is not just because of the electricity between them in the Beeb’s latest John Le Carre adaptation.

Set in 1979, the thriller sees them flit between glamorous European locations with the backdrop of espionage and terrorism adding a constant air of danger.

It’s obvious the team behind the show have turbo-injected the hit formula they used to make The Night Manager, the last big BBC1 adaptation of a Le Carre novel.

And though it may not have the high octane action of Bodyguard, the series is still essential viewing. Plus, unlike that hit’s fictional setting, this takes us back to a time when the world really was on the brink.

On top of that, Michael Shannon’s portrayal of Israeli spymaster Kurtz is nothing short of an acting masterclass – even if he can’t quite pull off the retro look quite as well as his seductive co-stars.
